Major General Abdulla Al Hashmi was born in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on 31 December 1961. He joined the UAE Air Force in 1980 and completed his Officer training course at Madina Base Texas, USA in 1981. He attended Under Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base in 1982 and the Mirage Conversion course in 1983. He became a Mirage OPS Pilot in 1985 and was later appointed as Mirage OPS Flight Commander in 1988.
On completion of his instructor pilot course at Randolf Air Force Base USA, he took the Command of the Mirage Training Flight and Head of Air Training Section at UAE Air Force Headquarters. He became a Deputy Hawk Squadron Commander at the Air College in UAE in 1992 and later on his promotion to the rank of Squadron Commander in 1996, he was appointed as Head of OPS Department.
He attended Staff Course in 2001 and soon after he was promoted as Head of Air Force Training Department. Later, he was posted as Deputy Base Commander at Al Minhad Air Base.
In 2006, he attended Centre of Defence and Strategic Studies (CDSS) at the Australian Defence College in Australia, where he also completed his Masters Degree in Defence and Strategic Studies. On return to the UAE, he was promoted to the rank of Brigadier in 2007 and took over the Command of Safron Air Base.
He was appointed as the UAE Defence Attaché to Australia and New Zealand in December 2008. On his promotion to the rank of Major General in September 2013, he returned to the UAE and got appointed as Assistant Undersecretary for Strategic Analysis at the Ministry of Defence. In April 2017, he got appointed as Assistant Undersecretary for Support Services. In February 2020 he got retired.
He is married and blessed with five children. He loves poetry and is always keen to play Soccer, Golf and Ice Hockey.
